To Whom does Salvation Belong?

Psalms 3:8 "Salvation belongeth unto the LORD: thy blessing is upon thy people. Selah.

Introduction. In this world people believes so many different things and ways of salvation. However man may see it salvation belongs to God. It is His to give or not to give. Jonah said "But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the LORD." Jonah 2:9 as we will see this morning salvation is the Lord's and He blesses who ever He chooses with it.

               I.      Jacob called "salvation" the Lords. Genesis 49:18 "I have waited for thy salvation, O LORD."

A.    While most people believe salvation is ours, our choice, it truly is not. Salvation is God's to give as He chooses.

B.     Psalms 85:7 "Shew us thy mercy, O LORD, and grant us thy salvation."

C.     1 Thessalonians 1:10 "And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come."

II.      The writer to the Hebrews calls His salvation "eternal Salvation" Hebrews 5:9 "And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;"

A.    The word "eternal" means perpetual or never ending.

B.     Paul said in Romans 8:38 - 39 "For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, (39.) Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

C.     the word "Author" means "causative" it is eternal because His blood made the forgiveness of sins eternal.

D.    Hebrews 12:2 "Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God." - The word "author" means chief leader or captain of our faith.

III.      Paul calls salvation "out own salvation" Philippians 2:12 "Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling."

A.    It would be contrary to the Scriptures to believe that somehow we can workout our own salvation, because salvation belongs to God and Jesus Christ and they give it. This salvation God has designed it just for you, all saved people are different.

B.     The words "work out" means - to work fully- with "...fear and trembling." that is fearing to fail God. Once saved it ought to be your goal to finish your life with fearing God the work that God has performed in you. Isaiah 8:13 "Sanctify the LORD of hosts himself; and let him be your fear, and let him be your dread."

IV.      The writer to the Hebrews also calls God's salvation "so great salvation" Hebrews 2:3 "How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;"

A.    "so great" means - so mighty salvation - because it comes from a mighty God, mighty Saviour, and a mighty Holy Spirit. They must be mighty to save wrenched, wicked man.

B.     Only our mighty God can save sinners. Acts 4:12 "Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved."

C.     Luke 1:68 - 69 "Blessed be the Lord God of Israel; for he hath visited and redeemed his people, (69.) And hath raised up an horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David;" - A horn is a symbol of strength, that is “strength of salvation,” or “mighty Salvation,” meaning the Savior Himself.

D.    Psalms 132:17 "There will I make the horn of David to bud: I have ordained a lamp for mine anointed."
