The Election Of Abel Over Cain.

Text: Genesis 4:1 – 13

Introduction: We live in a world today where the word of God has been watered down, God himself has been weakened to a nothing in the mind of the world, and man has elevated himself above and beyond God (in their minds). The religionist of our day (whether they call themselves Christian or not) have seek to destroy Gods Holy Word by changing the truth into a lie. They have (in their minds) convinced themselves that salvation is in mans hands when God clearly says salvation is of Him and Him alone. The religionist spend their entire ministries preaching one lie after another lie to disprove the truths of the Bible. But all will be for nothing and all will fail. The scriptures have concluded “…let God be true, but every man a liar…” God is just and perfect in every way and is without error, even when man calls Him a liar. Moses reminds us in Deuteronomy 32:4 - 6 "He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he. (5.) They have corrupted themselves, their spot is not the spot of his children: they are a perverse and crooked generation. (6.) Do ye thus requite the LORD, O foolish people and unwise? is not he thy father that hath bought thee? hath he not made thee, and established thee?"

Man has demonized and watered down the doctrine of election calling it the devils doctrine, insulting it enough that real Christians are ashamed to say they believe it or worse refused to believe it because it is so hated. Pastors have destroyed churches because they refuse to teach it, or believe it, because they have let their worry of church size control their thinking. The Election of God is alive and well even today, even with the attempt by many to destroy the doctrine altogether. The question is why did God accept Abel’s offering over Cain’s it was because God chose too. Just as was the reason God accepted Abel over Cain. That was just the reason God accepted Jacob over Esau. Say what you want, believe what you want, but the truth is with God. God elects His own without question.

               I.      Why did God accept Abel over Cain? Verses 4 - 5 "And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering: (5.) But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell."

A.    Was it because he was a tiller of the ground or a grounds keeper?

B.     Wasn’t his father a grounds keeper, and who made him a grounds keeper?

C.     Is there any logical reason why God would accept one brothers offering over the other? I have heard a lot of reasons but none are provable.

D.    Could it be that God chose to accept one and not the other because of election?

II.      What about Jacob and Esau, why did God love one and not the other? Malachi 1:2 - 3 "I have loved you, saith the LORD. Yet ye say, Wherein hast thou loved us? Was not Esau Jacob's brother? saith the LORD: yet I loved Jacob, (3.) And I hated Esau, and laid his mountains and his heritage waste for the dragons of the wilderness."

A.    Is there any logical reason that God loved Jacob and hated Esau? Again you may hear many explanations but what is scriptural.

B.     God hated both Cain and Esau because He chose too, just as He has hated many.

C.     God never offered salvation to the world, He demands we (the church) preach the gospel to the world but He never says he wants the world to be saved.

D.    We hear so many explanations but no scriptural explanations outside of God’s elective choice.

E.     Did Esau do something more wrong that Jacob did Jacob just to decide to choose to follow God? No!

F.      God declares in Romans 9:21 - 22 "Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour? (22.) What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction:"

G.    Hath God not the power to love one and not another? Romans 9:20 "Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus?"

H.    The truth is that God made both Cain and Esau vessels fitted for destruction. This is called “Election”.

III.      Cain hated God for His choosing His Brother over him, so much so he killed him. Genesis 4:8 "And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him."

A.    This is why people hate God, they hate Christ, and they hate Christians, because we have the love of God and they don’t.

B.     Those that God loves He loved eternally. Jeremiah 31:3 “The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.”

C.     Cain hated Abel because God loved him and not Cain; Esau hated Jacob because God loved one and not the other. People will hate us (Christians) because God loves us. This hate against God is a natural reaction.

IV.      Cain hated it because God rejected his works. Verse 5 “But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.”

A.    The truth is God did not reject Cain’s fruits, he rejected Cain and because of that he rejected everything from Cain.

B.     God rejects the fruits of the lost.  Romans 8:7 – 8 "Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. (8.) So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God."

C.     It is not the fruit; it is the love of God. God does not love because of our fruit but because He chooses too.

D.     Jesus said in John 7:7 “The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that the works thereof are evil.”

            V.      Conclusion

A.    While so many have refused to learn the doctrine of election and ignorantly refuse to accept its existence does not prove it is a false doctrine.

B.     The Bible in every story gives proof of God’s elective grace if our eye and hearts have not been blinded to it. In every biblical story ask yourself “why was this person chosen and not another”

C.     Don’t allow friends and family tell you that it is disgraceful to believe election because it is absolutely truth.
